A tree as big around as you can reach starts with a small seed;
a thousand-mile journey starts with one small step.
-Lao Tse
Where you are today is the destination of your thoughts and actions in the past few years. So you have the power to decide what you will be experiencing in your next 10 or 20 years. Your tomorrow is influenced by what you do today. Your family, friends, career, bank account, home – all these are the puzzle pieces that take shape from what you choose to do today. Now.
As learning is a life-long process, life itself is a building process. Your actions today will affect how your tomorrow turns out. Life doesn’t just happen in 24 hours just as Rome wasn’t built in a day. What you sow today is what you will reap tomorrow. Whether you obliterate a bad habit, whether you spend an hour with your family, whether you exercise, whether you stretch your mind – your decision is what makes the difference.
So, what we do today IS important.
For a little while, you can get away by being careless but sooner or later, things eventually catch up with you. If you don’t pay your bills or take responsibility and if you leave your problems to everyone else, yes you may manage for a month or so. Then the day will come when the walls fall in and you wonder why there is no fun in your work, no money in the bank and nobody is friendly any more. It is life reminding you that every passing day has an accumulative effect.
Wherever you are, today is a good day to start. Your decision and action whether to make full use of today does make a difference.
A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to sleep—
So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,
And your need like an armed man.
-Proverbs 6:10-11
